We live in a Georgian townhouse in the centre of town. Our garden is hard-working and combines parking for a couple of cars with narrow, but fully planted beds. Creating a garden with a sense of calm and privacy is a premium. It's also a relatively newly planted space, as just three years ago it was a neglected and sorry plot.

This year we decided to bring in more planting by repurposing some of the parking. Our challenge was how to balance new and existing planting within a tight space with poor sun-baked soil. We also wanted the planting to provide further privacy and year-round interest.
